Podcamp Halifax

Sunday, January 25th, Halifax will be hosting the first podcamp east of Montreal. This is exciting news as podcamp Toronto and podcamp Montreal have been very successful.

A PodCamp is a usually free BarCamp-style community UnConference for new media enthusiasts and professionals including bloggers, podcasters, YouTubers, social networkers, and anyone curious about new media. The first PodCamp was held September 8-10, 2006 in Boston, Massachusetts. PodCamps are now being held worldwide.

PodCamp isn’t just about podcasting! If you’re interested in blogging, social media, social networking, podcasting, video on the net, if you’re a podsafe musician (or want to be), or just someone curious about new media, then please join us — and bring a friend or colleague.

There are some decisions that I’m going to be making with regards to the blog, but in the meantime I wanted to post about several upcoming events in the area that need some recognition.

New Brunswick’s ICT showcase, ThinkNB, will be held again this year. Oct. 29th and 30th at the Saint John Trade and Convention Center. I attended last year and was amazed at the diversity of ITC companies in NB.

If you haven’t already please join Third Tuessday and RSVP. We have had a lot of fun at each event and everyone has walked away learning something new.

Last week, Third Tuesday held it’s third meeting in Moncton. Dan Martell and crew did an amazing job with promoting the event and we had a whopping attendance of approx. 120 attendees. The crowd was diverse with people from IT, marketing, business, tourism, health, and entrepreneurs. I would have to say that studio 700 was a fabulous venue.

We were fortunate to have a couple of mentions in the TJ and T&T over the last couple of weeks. Although I have to admit, that I find the mix of cybersocials and Third Tuesday in one article a little odd. However, it’s good news for everyone in the IT industry that there is more involvement and participation from all fronts. I’d also like to make sure that David Alston from radian6 is credited as the co-founder of the Third Tuesday NB group.  And I feel a need to qualify my old boy’s club statement from the article;) I was referring to how social media breaks down barriers like those that exist in the “old boy’s club”. That we can communicate with everyone on the same field from IT to business leaders to media moguls. Those of you participating understand how rich the collaboration is within social media.

Sorry for the hiatus lately. A slew of illness, work and life threw a wrench in things for a bit. But I’ve spent the last few weeks getting caught up on what’s going on in the Social Media space and now it’s time to get back to blogging.

It’s time for our next Third Tuesday Social Media Meetup. This time it’s going to be really big and Dan Martell from Spheric is leading the charge drumming up enthusiasm from every corner of the web. For the first time I’ll be doing a demo of WalkingSpree and I’m looking forward to showing an example of a commercial niche private social networking site. We have a great group of presenters and this will be a group of people with the cutting edge information on what is happening on the online media space. You definitely need to be there.
